Waxy O’Shea’s, 90 Dee Street
“The Southernmost Irish Pub in the world”, I attended a Green Party meeting here to meet Eugenie Sage in the tofu. She said she does not eat land animals, but currently ate fish. After meeting me, she emailed saying she “will Work harder on giving up fish.” It would be great if New Zealand could boast more Vegan members of parliament, like in the UK.
I’d been told that ” Waxy’s ” served Vegan food, but rang ahead to check. The staff member who answered the phone asked “thats no meat, no milk and stuff, right?”, and then asked the chefs in the kitchen what they could do. I was told with advanced warning they could actually order in dairy free cheese which sounded interesting.
I was served a Roast Vegetable Salad, with pumpkin, kumara, potato, onions and carrots, topped with a swirl of balsamic vinegar.
Roasted Vegetable Salad with balsamic vinegar, $17.90
Waxy O’Shea’s has a variety of seating areas in the restaurant section, surrounded by stereotypically “Irish” themed objects.
Pleasant staff and a colourful Vegan meal :-)
